Microsoft Buys Swat - January 18, 2022
A bit of a click-bait title, but it is true that Microsoft has bought Activision-Blizzard. You can read the announcement on their website.
I assume that this means that Microsoft now owns the Swat franchise since Activision-Blizzard bought it from Vivendi-Universal back in 2013.
In terms of the Last Resort mod so far we have been lucky to not have lawyers knocking on the door. Some studios don't like mod makers. Hopefully the new owners will also leave us alone since we are a benefit to their meager Steam and GOG sales for Swat 3.

Yay me! I put the right year in the title instead of writing 2021 out of habit.
The holidays were a very productive period for me on the mod. Many new AI textures were generated. Copy-cat, the resident mad scientist, was working on a hack to create larger load screens but more work still needs to be done on it.
Sadly my wife's computer died during a power outage (looks like the power bar we had sucked as a surge suppressor). I ordered parts to basically build a new machine (I5 12th generation) for me while she gets the old 4th generation I7. One thing I neglected to take into account when I bought my motherboard was how difficult it is right now to buy DDR5 memory at a reasonable price. Woops. I refuse to buy from a company taking advantage of this pandemic situation.
What this means is during the week she needs the "modding" computer for remote work. Considering we are single income during the pandemic she has priority access.
The summary of all that is that I get less time to work on the mod until I get a second computer built.

Ready or Not is now available for purchase on Steam's early access !!
The price is CAD $45.99, USD $39.99, GBP £30.99, EU €35.99, NZD $49.99
Remember though this really is still the alpha version that they were forced to release early. The Team17 partnership with the developers seems to have folded and to keep generating money to finish the game they needed to go early access to get more Steam keys.
Merry Christmas!

On December 11th the makers of Ready or Not posted an announcement on Steam that they will be going early access before January.
"We can no longer generate new Steam Keys unless we also go live on Steam, and since we absolutely depend on pre-sale income to continue developing Ready or Not, we have decided to go live on Steam Early Access by the end of 2021."
This is great news for people who have been dying to play the game. However, the question arises will this be something good for the game's development? I suspect that they could sell the game for the full release price on Steam during the whole early access because their core audience is so dedicated and passionate about the genre.
Personally, I have been so excited for this game lately that I started to mess around trying to learn the Unreal Editor. This is going to be a great tactical Christmas present.

You have to watch some new Alpha version footage of Ready or Not. They finally added coop and it looks spectactular.
I have to say it looks like I am going to have to eat some humble pie because I was very doubtful this game would see the light of day.
From these videos alone I want to throw my money at it. Enjoy the videos.

It is that time of the year again where I had to spend $20 CAD to renew the domain. It is strange to think I spent probably over $250 total keeping this website running since I am so slow at making this mod.
Speaking of which I must apologize for being inactive for a while. I have been addicted to playing Stranded Deep this last month and recently started paying for Xbox Gamepass for the PC. What a rabbit hole of gaming that has lead me down.
What have I actually done lately besides updating the website software regulary? On the front page there is a link to the map texture upgrade progress. I started doing an audit of how much work has been done and how much still remains.
This whole last year has been spent on working on the "framework" of the mod but not enough has been done on improving the actual textures. These texture upgrades are what people really want to see so they can say "gee, the game looks so much better with this mod".
