Personally I don't care if it's menu or m3nu lol

I was just testing if the issue of frame rates was due to the name change. But it was actually the swat.exe file name change that was the problem.

I'm not the best, but always willing to work together. 2 sets of eyes better than one they always say. Why would anyone write a competing script? The game is so old that we should be working towards one goal.

The one goal I currently have is trying to see if there's a way instead of just fixing graphics and stuff, is actually setting up a server to play the game on. A mod that changes the server designations so when someone wants to play online they go to internet, they don't need to have a third party vpn. To my knowledge there was a mod out there at some point that did this, or was attempting to do this. If we could get our hands on it and implement it into LR possibly, would be a giant leap forward and we could have the lobby full with players again.

I agree the server idea is something that I have dreamed about since they shut down the WON network.

There indeed was a utility out but as far as I recall it really only had chat features and was meant to work with the Won Network. If I am thinking about the same one you are it was made by clearbreach (aka Andrew Freiday) who was also a staff member on 10-David.com (could be wrong about who made it though)

Hard to remember it was so long ago so I could be wrong. I tried finding references to it on the Internet Archive WaybackMachine but couldn't. Could it have been called "Swat 3 Toolbar"? I vaguely remember that had a few miscellaneous features in it.

All I remember about the WON chat tool thingy was that it had a custom .dll that handled communication with the server.

The only other thing I recall was someone making an IRC chat tool for Swat 4 since it lacked chat lobbies. I don't remember anyone working on a server replacement for Swat 3.

Since the WON Network has long been dead it would probably be nearly impossible to reverse engineer that. Making a LAN server is possible though since we can monitor the network communication for that. The added complication of making it work over the internet is what will really make it a challenge.

Would be cool to see a WON replacement, SWAT 4 has something similiar? once GameSpy shut down lots of games lost Multiplayer unless devs went back and fixed it.

I believe there is a mod/tool for SWAT 4 to see servers in-game? not used it myself but I recall seeing it.

If I recall correctly the SWAT 1.6.exe has a Direct IP Connection function? maybe something could be done with that and have an external browser? that would launch into connecting to a server.

Don't know how likely it is to take that function from 1.6.exe and re-implement it into the current version and I don't even know if it worked last I tried it I was having all sorts of issues with my firewall that wasn't letting SWAT connect on LAN once I fixed it I never tried the Direct IP method again.

VPN bugs me... my router/firewall setup does not like Tunngle in the slightest, it will work sometimes.

I am as senile as a 90 year old man with a brain injury but I thought that it didn't work properly. I vaguely remember Furrycat posting about it.

All I can find now is the command line argument he posted about -join and -host that he never could figure out how it worked

Just tested to see if Nvidia was applying some sort of frame rate fix in the Nvidia Control Panel to Swat 3. I tried copying all of the same settings they have entered from "swat.exe" to "swat_800x600.exe" to see if that helped. Sadly it didn't.

Either they have more going on in the background than just those settings or the real problem is the renamed executable itself.

Anyone hear of issues when you rename an executable before, lol? If there was a hard coded reference to the executable you would think it would cause it to stop functioning all together rather than cause frame rate issues only in fullscreen mode. It doesn't make sense.

I don't think the issue is in the executable file itself. The problem is renaming it.

Windowed mode - Windows and your video card driver are making the game smooth. DirectX is also there but in windowed mode DirectX isn't the leading factor.

Full screen - DirectX fully takes over so to speak. The call to swat.exe is in a dll file I believe, that DirectX needs to function properly. DirectX doesn't look for swat_800x600.exe so the fps is poor.

This is all speculation, but could be the cause since it only happens while in full screen with LR.
