Texture Upgrading with AI

Some textures in Swat 3 can be improved by the use of AI software to increase their resolution.    This thread is to hopefully figure out what is the best AI software for us to improve Swat 3 with.

Note:  Of course many of them don't benefit by this process (some originals have too low of detail) and need to be manually remade in Photoshop.

I have been trying a few AI packages but wondered if visitors had any suggestions.

Gigapixel AI by Topaz Labs -  Cost: $100 USD

It works well as a standalone product but you can not save in .BMP or .TGA formats.   From my understanding the only way to do that is to use it as a Photoshop plugin.   I haven't attempted it yet.

UPDATE:   I removed my initial complaints about this software.   Yesterday I started from scratch by re-installing and it is working properly now.  Sadly for weeks now I have been messing around with a half functioning program because I am idiot that installed it wrong.

So far very happy with the output but it has to be used carefully. Sometimes the resulting texture is mangled by the AI.

Just found out that Reddit has a section regarding game upscaling so I am starting down this rabbit hole:

Quick update as I spend more time using the AI to upscale the textures:

The "realesrgan-x4plus" model can give strange results with .TGA files. Although as I mentioned in the last post it gave the most accurate alpha channel "transparency" it didn't do as good of a job with the actual image.

Even with .bmp textures I found the "realesrgan-x4plus" model increased the image contrast and saturation compared to the original.
